Plan For Tomorrow

I guess I think about this a lot.  So, I was happy this morning when I saw MSN running an article on shaving your legs.  Who knew there were rules.  I was just given a razor in 6th grade and not any real direction. I have been doing it wrong my whole life. I would really like an article on pit shaving, there must be a better way.  Read here. Shaving Mistakes

I had all kinds of energy this morning and then I went to Barre and now I am wiped out. I tried to lift after and I just couldn't do much.  So instead of worrying about it, I came home and made a plan for tomorrow's workout.

The plan is:
10 mile easy run (might split with AMT if I get bored).
and then...
BARBARA!

I won't do 5 Rounds.  Just 2 when I am done running.

12 x 400's and Tabata sprints

You know I am serious when I break out the purple tank top.  It keeps me cool when I am trying to push myself.

12 x 400's

7 minutes--1/2 mile walking warm-up
  • 2:00
  • 1:48
  • 1:50
  • 1:50
  • 1:43
  • 1:40
  • 1:45
  • 1:37
  • 1:33
  • 1:31
  • 1:44
  • 1:32--each 400 followed by 1-2 minutes walking recovery 4.0 mph

When I'm done at the gym, it's not so serious anymore.  We played outside and little man got a haircut.  It is supposed to be 60 degrees for the next few days.  Time to soak up some sun!

Regular Workout

We had an ice delay for school today, which meant that my kindergartener got to stay home.  We had breakfast and went to the gym.  By the time we left the house, the roads were good, but the sidewalks were terrible. The gym was pretty empty.  It is always nice when you can use whatever equipment you want without waiting.

My kids wanted to see the "Let It Go" performance on the Oscars last night.  They thought the singer should look like the character, but she doesn't.  The sad thing is that it was at the end of the program, so they stayed up a little late.  And the performance was a little off, but Idina Menzel is still an incredible singer.  I think her voice must have been tired from her Broadway show. They watch a lot of different versions of that song on YouTube.  Like most moms, I am a little tired of it. But I still appreciate good music.

I am trying to figure out what races to do.  There are a lot of 5Ks around here and a few longer races.  I need to make a goal, make a plan, and work the plan.  I don't feel like doing a half right now, so I will probably do a couple 5K and 10K races and then do a half toward the end of the summer or early fall again.  If anyone wants a running partner for a race in the area, let me know.

There are a lot of cute, older men and women at the gym.  The other day, a man came up to me and said, "You sure work hard.  I tried to get my wife to exercise.  She would still be alive today if she did.  She died last year and was 350 lbs. If she would have done half of what you do, she would still be here. Keep it up."

I wasn't sure what to say back to him.  I just said, "Thank You" and "I'm sorry for your loss." I can imagine that his wife didn't know where to start and felt overwhelmed. In that case, a trainer could be a great option.  A little cheerleader in your corner who wants you to succeed and can teach you how to do it. It is possible to start even if you have never exercised.  Give it a try.

Workout:
10 minutes--AMT--warm-up
40 minutes--lifting
  • deep squat and press with dumbbells (hands in neutral position)--3x12 reps
  • hack squat, heels on 25 lb. weight plate, holding dumbbells--3x12 reps

Saturday Is A Special Day

I took yesterday off for a meeting and had to get to the gym this morning. Plus, last night we went out to eat at this Chinese restaurant that was totally decked out 80's style.  The food was okay, at best, and they gave us the wrong order.  We didn't realize it until we left. What exactly did we eat?

After the gym, we ate protein bars and did some push ups.

He's such a good helper.

We did something we almost never do today.  My husband and I watched "Gravity" and then we watched "Thor." 2 movies in one day is unheard of and overkill.  We won't do that again unless we are watching a trilogy or something like that. But is was kind of fun to have a date at home, once we got over the motion sickness. If you've seen "Gravity" you know what I mean.

Workout:
10 minutes--AMT--warm-up
16 minutes--Rowing
  • 500m/1 min. rest x5
10 minutes--push ups and planks
35 minutes--AMT--16/18 Intervals

I am sure that what I do for exercise seems like a lot or hard to some people.  I started at zero and have worked my way to where I am and I am still working. Start small and make goals.  Make time for a little or a lot of exercise.  It will be hard at first and might not get easier, but you will get better at it.  You can do it!

Row Your Boat

Thursday Feels Like Friday

It feels like this week has gone on forever.  Probably because I have been waiting around for people to fix my floor.  I waited all day yesterday for the man to come and he never showed up.  That really ruins your day, when your kids are bugging  asking to play with friends all day.  I kept saying the guy is coming any minute and then he didn't show.

He showed up today and was very apologetic.  When he tested to see if the floor had dried anymore after pulling out a tile, he found more wet tiles further out from the fridge space.  What I thought would be a fix under the fridge might turn into a full tile replacement.  The tile goes from the front of the house to the back of the house, in the kitchen and down the hall.  It's a ton of tile.

The numbers on the floor are the moisture percentages.
The pantry is wet too.

This is our current design plan.  The fridge is the centerpiece of the kitchen.
We are grateful that everything is still functional, but it is going to be a huge mess.

I showed our little boy that we could watch YouTube on the TV and now that is what he wants to do every time he is in our room. This morning, we watched Cars in German.

My kindergartener asked if dogs really choke on peanut butter.  When I said "Yes," she said, "That's why we don't have a dog! We like peanut butter too much." That is definitely why.

I have not had energy this week.  The only thing I can guess is that I need to eat more in the morning.  I was wiped out from dead lifts for a few days, but I thought I would be all better today.  My legs are still heavy, but not sore.  I feel like I need to run, but my body doesn't want to do it.

Workout:
10 minutes--AMT--warm-up
35 minutes--lifting
  • Front squat with barbell (45)
  • Thrusters
  • Cleans
  • Step-ups with 20 lb. dumbbells
  • Squat press with dumbbells (hands in neutral position)
  • Plank with shoulder taps
35 minutes--AMT--16/18 Intervals
16 minutes--Treadmill--Tabata sprints at 9.2-9.5 mph

Super Easy White Chicken Chili

As an alternative to the Mexican Chicken Corn Chowder, I make this chili--courtesy of a McCormick's seasoning packet.

I cook frozen chicken breasts in a crockpot with some salt and pepper.  Then when it is soft enough to shred, take out the chicken and remove the extra gunk in the broth. Put the chicken (shredded) back in the crockpot and add the beans and seasoning.  I also add a can of corn.  Let simmer in crockpot for an hour or 2.  To make it a little creamy, you can add sour cream and cheese.

Top with cilantro, tomato, avocado and fresh chopped onion if desired.

This is what we do when there are no treats in the house.

Semi-sweet is good for you, like dark chocolate, right?

STILL DRYING!!!
